It’s the most wonderful time of the year, y’all! And this season I’ve been super psyched about Christmas since Halloween was barely over…really. While that’s unusually early for me, I’ve still managed to fall behind in some of our holiday tasks (will there ever be a year when I’m not?!) like constructing and decorating our tree. But as of a week and a half ago, our tannenbaum’s up, lit, and decked out with all kinds of goodness.

This year I have neither a definitive tree theme nor a cutesy theme name to go along with it (shocking, I know). It’s pretty similar to last year’s “folksy metallic” with a few minor adjustments. I increased the number of wooden and soft/fabric ornaments for a homier vibe, and as far as metallics, I used less silver and more gold or bronze/copper ornaments for a warmer feel. Like usual, we’ve included lots of our fave ornaments from years’ past (white wooden snowflakes, pinecones, birds, and what have you) along with some new additions.

My mom found this furry, little fox for our tree (it’s from Kohl’s, I think).

I picked up this soft and chubby schnauzer from Crate + Barrel in honor of Allie.

This adorable gnome is also, not surprisingly, a C+B find.

I inherited these pretty, gold-streaked ornaments from my grandma’s collection.

Jamie’s parents gifted us this shiny cable car to commemorate our visit to San Francisco last year.

We’re representing the nativity with some wooden wise men (just two of them — the third was nowhere to be found).

On our highest bough, we have a little bird in a wreath, a gift from Jamie’s Grandma Henry whom we lost this past year.

Last but not least, as soon as I saw this wooden family of ornaments including a daddy, mommy, baby, and child, I had to have it. Especially since we’re expecting a new addition to our family…

That’s right, Jamie and I are having a baby! And I’m so glad I don’t have to keep it a secret anymore! It’s pretty much our biggest news yet and needless to say, we are beyond thrilled to become parents. Around Thanksgiving, I was nearing the end of the first trimester (aka the safe zone) so we decided that would be a great time to share with our family and close friends…and now I feel ready to proclaim it on my blog! Currently I am 16 weeks along with a due date of June 1, and so far Baby and I are doing great.

Hope everyone is having a happy holiday season! This one’s been a whirlwind for us — I didn’t even get to put up our Christmas bucket list this year! But there’s still a week left until Christmas, so we plan to enjoy this last holiday as just husband, wife, and dog before a little baby joins our family…!

Merry Christmas to all and wishing you the best for a wonderful 2014!
