HOOSKER-DOOS + HOOSKER-DON’TS.

Here’s what was going down at our place this past weekend.

Repaired deck. Scraped wallpaper. Ran TV cable. Trimmed shrubbery. Began painting. Unpacked (a little) and organized. Wheeew! More details on a few of those projects coming soon.

Did you see any fireworks this year? Being so close to D.C., we definitely considered going downtown to see the big show, but after all the hard labor that took place over the weekend, we substituted the crowds + traffic with A Capitol Fourth on PBS. Though we did manage to see some live firework action in our own neighborhood. These weren’t your standard sparklers, bottle rockets, and what have you — these were legitimate, show-size fireworks. And not just one, but several houses in our general vicinity were cracking them off.

How did everyone obtain said contraband? We do not know. Since we practically live in the nation’s capital, we guessed people must be pretty serious about July 4 around here. We attempted to check out the neighborhood show from our deck and front porch (they were literally going off everywhere). Then the low-flying bats came, so we didn’t linger around. These bats must have been stunned by all the firework activity (or rabid?) because they were dipping so low + close to us, we could hear their sick sonar-clicking sounds. Yikers! Not even the most spectacular fireworks display is worth a bat tangled up in your hair.

On that note, hope your Fourth was a blast! (Get it? Haaah.)
